CRANE SUPERVISOR (4 Day Novice)

COURSE DETAILS

Title: CPCS Crane Supervisor (A62)
Duration: Four (4) consecutive days including CPCS Theory and Practical Test

TARGET DELEGATES

This course is aimed at anyone who is required to supervise safe systems of work using lifting equipment. It is recommended that, prior to attending this course, individuals should have some experience of working with lifting equipment, especially mobile cranes.

COURSE AIM AND CONTENTS

The aim of this course is to provide candidates with underpinning knowledge in order for them to understand the role and responsibility of the Crane Supervisor. Following successful completion of the course candidates will be able to understand and follow safe systems of work for lifting operations including writing risk assessments and method statements.

Topics covered during this course include:

  • Legislation - LOLER, PUWER, HASAWA
  • Codes of practice - BS7121
  • Roles and responsibilities of personnel involved with lifting operations
  • Crane appreciation - crane types, capabilities and limitations
  • Duty charts
  • Crane terminology
  • Documentation and certification for lifting equipment and lifting accessories
  • Crane stability/ground conditions
  • Safe Load Indicators (SLI) and Safe Working Loads (SWL)
  • Lifting accessories
  • Types of accessories and use
  • Slinging techniques
  • Down rating of accessories
  • Sling angles
  • Communications
  • Planning a lifting operation
  • Preparing a lift site in accordance with the AP’s safe system of work (end test)

CERTIFICATION

Successful candidates will be awarded a Red CPCS Trained Operator card endorsed with the category Crane Supervisor. Please note the Red CPCS card is only valid for 2 years, within this time you must complete your NVQ level 4 Diploma to convert from Red card to Blue card. The Blue CPCS card is valid for 5 years. 

Pre course requirement: The Health Safety & Environment test for Specialist Supervisors must be passed before undertaking the CPCS Technical Test.

SLINGER SIGNALLER (4 Day Novice)

CPCS CATEGORY CODE A40 – (Endorsement A) All Types – All Duties

COURSE DETAILS

Title: CPCS Slinger/Signaller (A40 – Endorsement A ) All Types – All Duties
Duration: Four (4) consecutive days including CPCS Theory and Practical Test

TARGET DELEGATES

This course is aimed at inexperienced operatives who are required to undertake slinging and signalling for the movement of loads using lifting equipment. Candidates may be new to the role or may be those with limited experience and no formal training.

COURSE AIM AND CONTENTS

The aim of this course is to provide candidates with practical and theoretical knowledge, in order for them to undertake the role of the Slinger/Signaller. Following successful completion of the course, candidates will be able to select the correct lifting accessories, attach them to loads safely and guide the load using the appropriate hand signals.

  • Roles and responsibilities of personnel involved with lifting operations
  • Documentation and certification for lifting equipment and lifting accessories

CERTIFICATION

Successful candidates will be awarded a Red CPCS Trained Operator card endorsed with the category Slinger Signaller All Types - All Duties. (Lifting Operations). Please note the Red CPCS card is only valid for 2 years, within this time you must complete your NVQ level 2 Diploma to convert from Red card to Blue card. The Blue CPCS card is valid for 5 years.

Pre course requirement: The Health Safety & Environment test for Operatives must be passed before undertaking the CPCS Technical Test.

APPOINTED PERSON (5 Day)

CPCS CATEGORY CODE A61

COURSE DETAILS

Title: CPCS Appointed Person (A61)
Duration: Five (5) consecutive days including 1 day CPCS Theory and Practical Test

TARGET DELEGATES

In response to our clients needs this extended course is aimed at anyone who is required to plan safe systems of work using lifting equipment with no or very little experience of planning lifting operations using mobile cranes. Although, thorough understanding of lifting operations is required. This gives additional training as preparation for the Technical Test on day five of the course.

COURSE AIM AND CONTENTS

The aim of this course is to provide candidates with underpinning knowledge in order for them to understand the role and responsibility of the Appointed Person. Following successful completion of the course candidates will be able to prepare and implement safe systems of work for lifting operations including writing risk assessments and method statements.

  • Legislation - LOLER, PUWER, HASAWA
  • Codes of practice - BS7121
  • Roles and responsibilities of personnel involved with lifting operations
  • Crane appreciation - crane types, capabilities and limitations

  • Documentation and certification for lifting equipment and lifting accessories
  • Crane stability/ground conditions
  • Related Capacity Indicators (RCI’s) and Safe Working Loads (SWL)
  • Selection of lifting accessories

  • Mode factors for accessories
  • Down rating of accessories
  • Sling angles
  • Communications
  • Planning a lifting operation
  • Writing a risk assessment (end test) Writing a method statement (end test)

Successful candidates will be awarded a Red CPCS Trained Operator card endorsed with the category Appointed Person. Please note the red CPCS card is only valid for 2 years, within this time you must complete your NVQ level 5 Diploma to convert from Red card to Blue card. The Blue CPCS card is valid for 5 years.

Pre course requirement: The Health Safety & Environment test for Managers & Professionals must be passed before undertaking theCPCS Technical Test.

MOBILE CRANE OPERATOR

CPCS CATEGORY CODE A60 endorsement C (All duties)

COURSE DETAILS

Title: CPCS Mobile Crane A60 endorsement C (All duties)
Duration: Five days including 1 day Technical Test

TARGET DELEGATES

PLEASE NOTE: UNRELATED (LIFTING) MACHINE EXPERIENCE IS ESSENTIAL FOR THE SEVEN DAY COURSE
This course is aimed at anyone who is required to operate mobile cranes for lifting operations on construction sites and other allied industries. Please note that a Group C category licence is required for driving on the open road, however this is not essential for the course. Good hand/eye co-ordination is also required.

COURSE AIM AND CONTENTS

The aim of this course is to provide candidates with underpinning knowledge in order for them to understand the role and responsibility of the Mobile Crane Operator. Following successful completion of the course candidates will be able to rig and de-rig an All Terrain crane. Operate the crane to lift, transfer and position loads and carry out routine
maintenance.

Topics covered during this course include: Legislation - LOLER, PUWER, HASAWA, codes of practice – BS7121

  • Roles and responsibilities of personnel involved with lifting operations – Crane appreciation - crane types, capabilities and limitations
  • Duty charts –Crane terminology
  • Documentation and certification for lifting equipment and lifting accessories 
  • Crane stability/ground conditions
  • Rated Capacity Indicator (RCI) and Safe Working Loads (SWL) 
  • Lifting accessories, types of accessories and use
  • Sling angles
  • Communications (Radio, verbal and hand signals etc) 
  • Rigging and De-Rigging of cranes according to written instructions 
  • Configuring cranes according to work specifications 
  • Hoisting, slewing and derricking following the instruction of the slinger/signaller 
  • Controlling load movement
  • Routine maintenance
  • Use of crane on free on wheels duties 
  • Use of crane on pick and carry duties

CERTIFICATION

Successful candidates will be awarded a Red CPCS Trained Operator card endorsed with the category Mobile Crane endorsement C All Duties A60.). Please note the Red CPCS card is only valid for 2 years, within this time you must complete your NVQ level 2 Diploma to convert from Red card to Blue card. The Blue CPCS card is valid for 5 years.

LEVEL 2 DIPLOMA - NVQ PLANT OPERATIONS (CONSTRUCTION) - CRANES AND SPECIALIST LIFTING PLANT

The candidate will learn key practical skills and knowledge in these mandatory units: 
  • Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace
  • Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace
The candidate will also learn key practical skills and knowledge in the following unit: 
  • Preparing and operating mobile cranes to lift and transfer loads in the workplace

LEVEL 4 NVQ DIPLOMA IN CONTROLLING LIFTING OPERATIONS - SUPERVISING LIFTS (CONSTRUCTION)

The candidate will learn key practical skills and knowledge in these mandatory units: 
  • Supervising Lifting Operations Using Lifting Equipment in the Workplace
  • Maintaining the Dimensional Accuracy of the Work in the Workplace
  • Coordinating Preparation Work for Site or Lifting Operations in the Workplace
  • Allocating Work and Checking People’s Performance in the Workplace
  • Developing and Maintaining Good Occupational Working Relationships in the Workplace
  • Maintaining Systems for Health, Safety, Welfare and Environmental Protection in the Workplace
  • Coordinating and Organising the Control of Work in the Workplace
  • Allocating and Monitoring the Use of Plant, Equipment or Machinery in the Workplace

LEVEL 5 NVQ DIPLOMA IN CONTROLLING LIFTING OPERATIONS - PLANNING LIFTS (CONSTRUCTION)

The Candidate will learn key practical skills and knowledge in: 
  • Evaluating and Selecting Work Methods to Meet Project or Operational Requirements in the Workplace
  • Planning the Preparation of the Site for the Project or Operation in the Workplace
  • Identifying, Allocating and Planning the Deployment and Use of Plant, Equipment or Machinery in the Workplace
  • Developing and Maintaining Good Occupational Working Relationships in the Workplace
  • Planning Lifting Activities Using Cranes and/or Lifting Equipment in the Workplace

LEVEL 2 NVQ DIPLOMA - CONTROLLING LIFTING OPERATIONS - SLINGER/SIGNALLER (CONSTRUCTION)

The candidate will learn key practical skills and knowledge in these mandatory units: 
  • Attaching and Preparing Suspended Loads for Movement Using Lifting Accessories in the Workplace
